Who Am I?
As an RN and Certified Nurse Psychotherapist, Caroline’s approach to counselling therapy is integrative, collaborative, oriented towards post-traumatic growth, and rooted in the principle that transformation is a way of life. Caroline is experienced with a broad range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, impacts of trauma, substance use addiction, grief and loss, chronic health challenges, burnout, relationship difficulties, and life transitions.
Caroline sees us as capable of being our own healers, guiding us to become aware of move through unconscious, habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and being that hinder growth. Her therapeutic style is gentle, yet direct – challenging us to delve deep into the heart of our stories to find the gold buried within.
Her path to becoming a therapist began after having her children young and realizing she wanted more for herself than to be a mother and wife. Caroline decided to pursue a career in nursing as it aligned with her deep compassion for others, her curiosity for human life, and her natural gift to connect with people. Through her nursing education journey, she discovered an interest for mental health and focused on practicing in the field. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with distinction and immediately began working in community mental health and addictions where she provided assessment, case-management and counselling as a nurse clinician.
In 2014 her life focus shifted after her husband received a cancer diagnosis. During this time, Caroline experienced her own spiritual awakening and found her way to the Whole Health Medicine Institute training with Dr. Lissa Rankin (author of Mind Over Medicine). This training helped her develop profound understanding of healing as a health professional. Caroline was then called by her soul to pursue training in Intentional Creativity, which she became certified to teach and began leading women’s healing and transformation workshops Further to this, Caroline discovered a passion for writing and poetry and self-published a collection of poems soon after the passing of her husband in 2021. The two years following, Caroline dove deep into her own healing after loss, taking time to process and reorient to her new life. She resigned from her job and found her way to healing in community and eventually co-teaching with a transformational, post-traumatic growth program for women. From there, Caroline eventually returned to the mental health and addictions field when accepting counselling position with an in-patient mental health and addictions treatment centre. Caroline has since furthered her education with the College of Health Studies and Canadian Nurse Psychotherapist Association to obtain her certification as a nurse psychotherapist.
Caroline brings her lived experience to her work as a basis for relating and understanding other while maintaining professionalism. She is a trauma-informed, person-centred, heart-based clinician, working primarily from a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) perspective while focusing on the whole person and blending elements of other modalities and theories, including:
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Post-Traumatic Growth
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Psychodynamic
- Humanistic
- Watson’s Caring Science & Human Caring Theory
Other areas of learning include Jungian psychology, energy medicine, feminine wisdom, and nature-based healing.
Caroline is a professional member of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association, the Canadian Nurse Psychotherapy Association, the Canadian Holistic Nurses Association and is registered in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
In her personal life, Caroline enjoys spending time with her family, partner, and dogs. She savours quiet mornings contemplating life through journalling, sipping hot tea, and meditating. Her love of nature often takes her to the forest or the ocean where she loves to capture images of small life and the way light moves through space and time. Her creative pursuits evolve as she does, yet writing is always where her hands naturally return to.
