Who Am I?

Growing up with her parents who had a Bed and Breakfast up the mountain on the Forbidden Plateau, that’s where Breanne’s interest sparked in making healthy home-cooked foods. Before school, Breanne would go and get eggs and help her mom prepare the food. Breanne’s mom was a very good cook and a vegetarian all her life, and Breanne gained a lot of cooking skills from her. The B&B also brought in Breanne an interest in meeting and getting to know new guests. One of these guests shared with her a lot about his travels teaching and living in Thailand and encouraged her to Travel there once she graduated. Breanne went to live and travel to Thailand and many other places where the people and food are always the best part.

Breanne was away from Vancouver Island for some time and after being back she is so excited to explore all the amazing places the island has to offer. Breanne enjoys Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Hiking, Snowshoeing and Swimming.  Recently, she has gotten more into overnight hiking and has hiked to the Juan De Fuca Trail, Cape Scott and Nootka Island. While preparing meals for these trips, she learned about dehydration and the importance of getting proper nutrition in on a physically challenging hike.

Breanne has been on Vancouver Island for 8yrs now. She has been working with several different volunteer organizations, where she has learned a lot about local food sustainability and creative ways to feed the community. Breanne also had an opportunity to work with a local artisan food maker and was able to see the larger picture of where and how the product is made.

Having joined Fresh Start, Breanne is looking forward to deepening her cooking skills and nutritional knowledge. She is also excited to be s part of the team that works together to improve its staff’s lives, along with the guests’ lives.
