Who Am I?
Kate, a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Registered Clinical Counsellor, brings a wealth of experience in trauma-informed, person-centred care. Her experience encompasses a wide range of concerns, which includes depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, lack of sense of self, difficult family dynamics, ADHD, and is Autism-aware. Kate believes that we all have the potential to heal and grow and sees therapy as an alchemical process of transformation that can help us access our inner resources and create a more fulfilling life.
Her journey into becoming a therapist was a personal one. Kate grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to Nanaimo, BC, to go to school. She initially struggled to find her path, switching programs in university multiple times until eventually failing out of school completely. However, this time away from school allowed her the freedom to explore herself and find her purpose. After nearly a year of this exploration, feeling lost and aimless and not finding anything that felt meaningful, she found her calling when working as a consultant at a weight loss program. It was here that she discovered her passion for supporting, holding space and empowering individuals.
With an inner knowing of being on the right path and a passion for helping and learning, Kate’s formal education in psychology began in 2014 and culminated in a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Vancouver Island University in 2017. During her studies, she was introduced to the world of Depth Psychology and the teachings of Carl Jung, which deeply resonated with her. During this time, she further honed her skills and empathy by working in various capacities in the mental health field: as a support worker for people with disabilities, working at local shelters, and volunteering at a crisis line.
In 2021, Kate completed her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute with a specialization in Depth Psychology and Marriage and Family Counselling. Her thesis explored her own personal healing journey and the presence and impact of the Ancestral Shadow. Since 2019, Kate has worked as a counsellor at a community agency, and in the Spring of 2023, she launched her private practice.
In her work, Kate prioritizes the client-therapist relationship, as it forms the foundation on which healing occurs. In her approach, Kate primarily works through a depth therapy and Jungian lens, helping clients explore their unconscious beliefs and patterns in order to gain insight and make meaning of their experiences. Kate also draws from a wide variety of theories and approaches, which includes but is not limited to:
- Jungian psychology
- Depth Therapy
- Rogerian psychology,
- Psychodynamic psychotherapy,
- Family Systems,
- Internal Family Systems (IFS),
- Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT),
- Sandplay Therapy,
- Mindfulness,
- Existential Philosophy,
- Meaning-Making
This diverse and ever-growing range of modalities and theories ensures that Kate is able to offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space that is tailored to meet your unique needs. Together, you will create a safe and supportive environment for deep exploration, transformation, and empowerment.
Outside her practice, Kate loves spending quality time with her husband and their cat, Luna. She enjoys immersing herself in nature, putting her feet in the ocean, practicing yoga, playing video games, and rewatching her favourite shows. Kate is passionate about art and explores her creativity through drawing, painting, and engaging in DIY projects.
