1.      Standard Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonic) Session with Chlorophyll 45 min $100

Colonics are designed for cleansing colon from mucoid plaque, parasites, Candida and other impurities, as well as for helping to reshape colon and to tone the colon muscles. During the procedure temperature controlled purified water is gently introduced into the colon through the rectum. Coffee contains enzymes known as Palmitates that help liver carry away the toxins in bile acid. Palmitates in coffee increase the production of powerful free-radical-quenching enzymes Glutathione S-transferases (GST) by 700 times. These assist your liver to more effectively detoxify your entire body. The caffeine in the coffee stimulates peristaltic activity and dilates the bile ducts allowing toxins to be flushed through the gastro-intestinal tract.

This unique technique helps lymph circulation and neuromuscular balancing, and can quickly alleviate common complains such as:

  • Sciatica
  • Low back pain
  • Knee pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Frozen shoulders
  • Hip pain
  • Skeletal and muscular problems from lumbar to neck

  • and much more

In its essence, Bowen therapy resets the body to heal itself. Everyone can benefit from this technique, from newborns to elderly.

The Bowen Technique consists of a number of gentle movements over a client’s muscles, bones and connective tissues at the precise location without sliding on the skin, first in their natural direction, and then in the opposite direction. This stimulates nervous system at the exact points requiring attention and makes surrounding fascia more fluid. As a result blood and lymph circulation at the site of injury increases, and healing accelerates. Bowen, the author of the technique compared it with guitar tuning, since the harmonious vibrations, created by this technique, rebalance body and can release blocked emotional energy.

12.      B12 Shot by N.D. $40

A must to try for vegans! Often tremendously increases energy. Consult with N.D., whether you have symptoms of this important vitamin deficiency.

  • Vitamin B12 is a key element for preserving a balance in the human body. In combination with other B-group vitamins, vitamin B12 ensures the smooth functioning of vital life processes of the human body. It is important for maintaining a healthy nervous system and DNA production. Vitamin B12 helps to regulate the formation of red blood cells in the body. B12 is important in maintaining and increasing energy levels in the human body.
  • If you suffer from bursitis, B12 is a key vitamin to hasten recovery. Talk with Dr. Maltais if you have this condition. People who have vegan and raw food diets often will have a deficiency and will need to consider taking it. Also, people who suffer from reflux or heartburn very likely are not absorbing B12.
  • Vitamin B12 helps to curb atherosclerosis and counter heart diseases and thrombosis. The synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a compound involved in immune function and mood, depends on the association of foliate and vitamin B12.
  • Studies indicate that absorption of Vitamin B12 decreases with an increase in age. Hence, an increased intake of vitamin B12 is extremely useful for adults above fifty. The recommended form of intake is via injection, since elderly people absorb this form better than food forms of vitamin B12. B12 aids in the cognitive function and heals neurological impairment within this group.
  • B12 could be obtained from animal food sources (dairy and meat). No reliable plant sources have found to contain this vitamin in usable by humans form. Vitamin B12 can be taken in the form of supplements sublingually (good) or via injections (best) and is highly beneficial in various forms.
  • Dr. Maltais uses methylcobalamin for Fresh Start clientele. Through this method, vitamin B12 can directly penetrate the bloodstream and yield numerous benefits. Methylcobalamin, the coenzyme form of vitamin B12 is the active form, which means that no metabolic steps are required for its ingestion and it can be used it in its normal form.

Note: This Service can be performed after a Naturopathic consultation with Dr. Maltais only

13.      Vitamin B Complex Shot by N.D. $45

Vitamin B consists of a group of eight water soluble vitamins that co-exist in certain food items. The eight subtypes of vitamin B are vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B7 (biotin), vitamin B9 (folic acid) and vitamin B12 (cobalamin). In medical terms, nutritional supplements containing all these eight subtypes are called vitamin B complex or simply B complex.
The role of vitamin B is crucial for the normal functioning of the body. To mention a few, it is responsible for promoting cell growth, cell division, skin health, immune system, nervous system and also in controlling the bodily metabolic processes. Hence, it is obvious that prolonged deficiency of vitamin B leads to certain health complications. Considering this, supplements are formulated in the form of vitamin B complex tablets and injections in order to combat the risks of vitamin deficiencies. Let's discuss in brief about vitamin B complex injection and its dosage, benefits and side effects.

Vitamin B Complex Injections

Vitamin B complex injections seem to be more effective in providing vitamin B to the body than other modes of administration (tablets, capsules and gels). The body enzymes and acids may alter the molecular structure of the vitamins once they are ingested. The injections are parenteral (not through digestive tract), most-often administered intramuscularly or intravenously. They are more expensive than other B complex forms.

Vitamin B Complex Injection Benefits

Vitamin B complex injections aid in quick and maximum absorption of the vitamins by the body cells and tissues. Vitamin B complex injections are beneficial for people who have problems in taking oral vitamin supplements. There are numerous vitamin B complex benefits including: dermatitis, psoriasis, increased fatigue, neuritis, difficulty in assimilation, stomatitis, anemia, intoxication, fever, severe burn, pregnancy, increased metabolism, impaired digestive tract, prolonged diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, alcoholism, burnout conditions, exhaustion, excessive stress, adrenal exhaustion, and various other B vitamin deficiency. Vitamin B injections are mostly used by athletes, children, vegetarians and adults over the age of 50.

Other Health Assessment Techniques

14.      Iridology 1 hr $90

Iridology is a special type of assessment based on studying of a colored part of the eye called iris. Iridology may be compared with reflexology, in a sense that different parts of the eye are connected to different body parts. By reading the iris one can find out a lot of information about what is happening in body organs and systems. With Iridology you can see your unique genetic fingerprint and how that can relate to what is going on in the body and even what is going on in you on thought level (personality characteristics). Your eyes reveal areas genetically that are potentially strong/resilient or not very resilient. The colors and iris signs also mean something very specific that gives clues to the underlying root causes that create issues within the body. It does not diagnose identifies the potential areas of stress, toxic overload, not enough nutrition, and mental/emotional stress.

Disclaimer: Iridology does not diagnose a disease.

Services for Improving Mobility and Muscular-Skeletal Function

15.      Yoga Therapy for Chronic Pain and Function Improvement 1 hr  $90; 1 1/2 hrs $125

The Therapeutic Yoga session is not the same as a typical yoga class. It more resembles physiotherapy, than yoga, but is an even more powerful, kinesiology-based body treatment. It is performed by a highly skilled professional who has studied and worked with high quality physicians and physiotherapists specializing in muscular-skeletal health. The session includes a comprehensive function assessment, special series of corrective exercises, as well as components of stress management, including breathing, meditation and relaxation techniques.

The Yoga Therapy session, in a step-by step manner, will present you with an opportunity to work on identifying the underlying causes of your mobility issues and explore simple and effective solutions based on this new understanding.

As part of the first session, you will go through an evaluation process to see how your body is moving or not moving. You will also be asked to color in a body diagram to show where you are experiencing discomfort in your body and or dysfunctional issues to be identified. Printed visual material will be given to you so that you can continue the exercises that will be suggested for your therapy.

Why Yoga Therapy?

Many people experience pain during exercising, sitting, walking, daily life and have learned to live with this pain. Some may try to stretch and exercise through pain or continue experiencing even more pain, due to an unidentified underlying cause. Others may avoid exercising in fear of inflicting even more pain. This way healing and healthy exercise can turn into a source of pain and can even be harmful in some ways.

Yoga therapy is an exploration session, during which you get to understand how your body moves and the relationship between body movement, lack of movement, breath and emotional states. The yoga therapy concentrates on letting go of compensations within the body, and has a strong foundation in kinesiology. The effect of this type of yoga is reduced pain, improved range of motion, strength and stability, enhanced sense of well-being, vitality, balance and focus.

Note: For the first appointment, please book 1 ½ hours, to allow for assessment.

16.      Ortho-Bionomy 1 hr $100 1 1/2 hrs $135

It is a gentle, non-invasive, technique with its roots in Osteopathy that has been effectively used in dealing with chronic stress, traumatic events (physical and emotional), and body pain, related to postural and structural imbalances. Ortho-Bionomy means the correct application of the laws of life. Its developer Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls, believed that "it is the literal skeleton upon which our life is built. When your structure works right, your circulation works better, you feel better, you think better."

During this session you will be fully dressed. The gentle positioning and subtle compression and distraction techniques release tight muscles around the restricted areas. This results in a deep relaxation and activation of the body’s self-correcting reflexes, which naturally bring the structure back into alignment. Unhealthy tension patterns resolve, while circulation, flexibility and range of motion increase. Additionally, rhythmic movements and isometrics or integrative exercises are used to help re-educate body for pain relief and self-healing, and reinforce the therapeutic effect of the treatment.

Ortho-Bionomy has been used for the following ailments:

  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Scoliosis
  • TMJ Discomfort
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Sciatica
  • Knee Injuries
  • Shock and Trauma Resolution

17.      Clavitherapy 1 hr $100 1 1/2 hrs $135

The technique was discovered in the 1960s by Doctor Ferdynand Barbasiewicz, of Poland, and has been researched and practiced for over forty years in Europe. It is new to Canada, and currently there are only thirteen practitioners, performing the therapy in this country. Clavitherapy is a unique method of detoxification that helps regulate the digestive, vegetative (brain function) and endocrine systems, and is applied in psychological and neurophysiologic rehabilitation. It optimizes metabolism, activates cortisone & stem cells; as well as helps to regulate emotions, excessive nervousness, and elevate mood.

Dr. Barbasiewicz performing Klawiterapia (Clavitherapy)

The treatment is performed with the use of special tools called clavicles, which are placed on the scalp and skin. The therapist holds 14 clavicles in each hand and gently stimulates cranial nerves, central nervous system on the spine and peripheral nervous system. The clavicles do not penetrate the skin, but rather are held in place by the therapist to evoke a response. Acupuncture meridians, as well as reflex therapy elements may also be applied in this treatment. The therapy adjusts personal electrical potentials and helps restore lost conduction of nerve signals in nerve fibers. The lost nerve signals, along with hormonally and chemically changed blood are reasons for susceptibility to ill health.

Clavitherapy promotes healing and well-being, as well as has found to be effective for:

  • Headaches, Migraines
  • Disturbances of blood circulation to feet & hands
  • Paresthesia (an abnormal sensation, as burning, prickling, and numbness)

19.       Laser Therapy (Phototherapy) 1 hr $90 1 1/2 hrs $125 - also good for support of emotional/adrenal health and sleep

A special laser device is placed on specific areas of the body, including adrenals, thymus, vagus nerve and sacrum. Additionally, a few programs will be used for targeting problem areas. Relax; feel your breath deepening as laser is helping bring your hormonal system and entire body to homeostasis. The laser treatment is integrated with various massage therapy modalities.

Laser light can be very helpful for insomnia, pain relief, stress reduction, as well as it is used to improve lymph circulation and enhance immune system. According to published evidence, LT is at least equal to surgical and manual therapies for a range of pathologies including neck pain, tendonitis, tendinosis (chronic tendonitis), and osteoarthritis. It is also used for nerve and other tissue regeneration, soft tissue injuries, scars, chronic pain, especially temporomandibular-related pain, and wound healing.

How laser light works: it donates photons to the cells and stimulates production of ATP (energy of cells), important for growth and regeneration of the cell, pretty much like sun rays stimulate plants to produce energy for growing big and juicy fruit. Laser Light also activates glands to produce hormones, acts positively on adrenals, and clears cellular memory, created as a result of stress and tension in the body. Tension traps energy and prevents its free flow through the body, which leads to rapid aging and disease. Everybody knows about connection between stress and stomach ulcers. Tension and trapped inside energy can also adversely influence liver and pancreas, and other organs. Releasing this tension will improve blood circulation and enhance the healing abilities of the body.

Acupressure is a body treatment that accesses and releases blocked or congested energy centers in the body, located along energy pathways called Meridians – the same pathways that are used in Acupuncture. When these centers are blocked, a person may experience a lot of physical and emotional discomfort and pain. Through the use of gentle, yet firm finger pressure on specific points and body-focusing techniques, Acupressure helps release physical and emotional tension, promoting a profound depth of relaxation.
Acupressure is accomplished with the client lying (supine) on the back and the therapist slides her hands underneath the client to push up and into the points within each client’s comfort level, allowing a general release of the tension in the muscles, as well as in the mind, and increased energy flow. Specific points are held for 1 minute – 3 minutes. Long-held emotions may also surface and dissipate. Sessions are held in a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment.

*For your acupressure session, please wear soft, comfortable clothing (no belts preferred).

Acupressure has been effectively used by people with the following health conditions and symptoms:

  • Tension and fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Stress-related headaches and migraines
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Back and shoulder pain
  • Eye strain
  • Sinus pain
  • Allergies
  • Hormonal imbalances, including PMS and menstrual problems
  • Fibromyalgia

  • Shoulder, neck, leg and lower back pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Muscle spasms
  • Joint stiffness
  • Teeth grinding
  • Insomnia
  • Electrolyte Imbalances
  • Emotional trauma

Note: All Fresh Start Spa Services are subject to availability of therapists. We apologize in advance, if we are unable to provide certain services to you. Spa Prices and services offered at our retreat are subject to change without notice.

Welcome to Fresh Start Spa!

We are proud to offer you a wide variety (over 40) of highest quality treatments. We hand pick therapists with extensive experience, and deep understanding of how to work with a variety of health conditions. Most of our therapists have 10-20 years of experience in body work and use a large number of techniques to design the treatments for your individual needs. Whether you have a structural issue you would like to address, or simply to pamper yourself, we’d be happy to offer you both. We aim that the quality of our services goes far beyond good. A large number of our guests come back because of the quality of our therapies.

In order to accommodate your booking needs to the maximum extent possible, we offer our services exclusively, or almost exclusively for our retreat guests. You can get to know the therapists very closely and to choose which therapist/therapists you would like to work with (as long as they are available). Due to some unique therapies, sometimes only one or two therapists would be able to perform a particular service. To be able to work with the therapist of your choice offers a huge advantage for you. You can read about our therapists and what services they offer on our About Us page.

Our Treatment Hours and How We Book

Our spa treatment hours are 1-9. This is the best time for the cleansing program, which is designed in a way to suit your healing process best. We book our appointments sequentially, which means the following: if the last appointment booked for the day and the therapist of your choice is at 4:00, and it is 1 hr long, the next available appointment will be at 5:15.

Some treatments may be available only on specific times or days, or require min number of requests. So please check, when the therapist you'd like to see is available.

Our program is structured in such a way, that regardless of when you book your appointment, you’ll be able to visit most workshops and health lectures, to take all cleansing drinks and to participate in an evening steam bath session, which we consider the most important elements of the program.

Because we offer a wide variety of extra curriculum activities daily and they are ongoing, our spa appointments are scheduled throughout those activities. So when you book your appointment, please make sure you know what activity is happening at that time and do not mind missing it. As our respected guest you’d have a privilege to make a choice between activities and treatments available.

Note: Please be prepared to some waiting time for services with N.D.

How to Book a Spa Appointment

If the group is small (up to 10-12 people), daily booking is best. At least initially, until you get to know therapists. If the group is large, if you see that the available bookings slots disappear quickly, or if you come for short program (2-7 days), please schedule your services in advance so that we can meet your requests. Our Spa Assistant and in her absence Program Director will be happy to assist you with bookings, as well as to explain to you benefits of each spa treatment.

If you schedule two or more appointments per day, please do not book them back to back, to avoid overlapping.

Note: Currently we are working on on-line booking option, which will make the bookings available to you any time anywhere, and will allow seeing how much availability is left per therapy/ therapist.

How to Keep Track of Bookings

It is your responsibility to keep track of your scheduled appointments. Please check your appointments on the board in the spa lobby, or upstairs in the Dining room and add them to the schedule in your binder.

How to Pay for Spa Services

For your convenience, we require only one payment for all spa services and other extra products/services – at the end of the program. To ensure accuracy, you will be provided with the final list of services and products for your review before the payment is processed.

Note: If you purchased something from the hotel store, please pay directly to Ocean Resort's Front Desk/ Manager, as we are two separate companies.

Cancellation and Switching of Appointments Policy

  • If you'd like to cancel your appointment, you need to provide us with min 48 hrs notice.
  • Due to the fact that all spa bookings are done for your retreat group only, the appointment juggling is extremely difficult for us. We would really appreciate, if you minimize cancellations.
  •  You can switch your appointment with another guest, or to change type of the appointment with the same therapist (must be same length) – please do not switch around appointments on your own, talk to the spa booking person. If you want to switch with another guest, please come to the Spa Assistant together with this person to do so. If you switched appointments without registering with our Spa Assistant, in case of confusion and no show, the person who was originally booked for that time will be responsible and charged a no-show fee.
  • Sometimes we may need to do some juggling to fit in all the booking requests of your group participants, or in order to group appointments for therapists. We appreciate your flexibility and patience.

Late Cancellations, Arrivals/ No Show

Late cancellations (less than 48 hrs notice), no-shows and the late arrivals that require rescheduling will be charged as 60% of the service cost. If you arrive for your appointment late but still at the time it is reasonable to start it, your appointment will be performed, but cut short.

Note: Remember that ferries and planes may not always be reliable due to the weather conditions and high volume of travelers in season. Unless you come for a very short program, it is best to register the first treatment not earlier than on the next day upon arrival. If you book an appointment on the day of your arrival, please be aware that in case if you are not able to make it, you'll be charged the no show/late arrival fee.
